Family Serve Spring and Summer Update
Dear Friends and Family,
Spring and Summer at Family Serve have been busy in the best possible ways. These seasons have been full of beautiful connections — old and new — from New Orleans to San Diego and to Baja California. Here is a glimpse of what Family Serve has been up to.
In April, we made a trip to New Orleans to visit our friends and begin laying the groundwork for a very special milestone! This November will be our 20th Anniversary Thanksgiving Meal. It is hard to believe that what began in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has now grown into two decades of Christian fellowship, home-cooked goodness, and lasting relationships. Please keep this upcoming milestone in your prayers — we want it to honor all that the Lord has done in this community over the past twenty years.
We continued our bi-monthly food distributions in our neighborhood in San Diego, and our monthly visits to Baja California, bringing provisions and staying connected to the local community. One highlight was welcoming Pastor Javier and his wife, Rosie, from Piedra Angular church in Francisco Zarco, Baja California to San Diego. What a joy to share our community with them, the way they have shared theirs with us. We are so grateful for their friendship and their faithfulness to sharing the love of Jesus with their local community in Baja.
We also kicked off a monthly "Makers" series at our home to support creative makers while building community with friends and neighbors. In May, we built birdhouses with maker Jack McCain. In June, we made candles with maker Renee Palmer. Then in July, we swapped and bedazzled books with makers Cozy Girls Co. and June Bug Creations. New connections were made and the community strengthened. We plan to host these events each month since many people have expressed their desire for community. We would love you to join in!
And we were so glad to be a part of the Altar SD as they moved from meeting at our home to their permanent location in South Park. Pastor Chris Littlecreek and his wife Ashley, and their launch team have worked hard to reach the South Park and Golden Hill communities. We love watching new seeds of faith take root in our neighborhood.
In June, we participated in Amor ministries' Family Campand built a house for a widow in Baja California. We enjoyed serving together as a family along with other families from across the Country.
Our girls Bible club, King's Daughters, had a great year and is on break for the summer. We continue our outreach to the school community in downtown San Diego by leading Kingdom Builder's weeklong summer camp, starting next week! Our theme this year is "Kingdom Builders: Makers of Peace." Our activities, lessons, and crafts will focus on how to build God's Kingdom by being everyday peacemakers.
August is a busy month for back to school outreaches in Baja. Backpacks and school supplies make a real difference for children in our Baja communities who have limited access to affordable school supplies. Our annual backpack drive has been launched and it will culminate with a Backpack Packing Party on August 16, 2026 at our home. This is a great activity for families and we would love to host you. If you wish to donate, please contact us at familyserveprojects@gmail.com for drop-off location or order here for direct delivery.
Thank you for your prayers and support. We are grateful!
